Alliance and Leicester building society has released the findings of its "Movingimproving index", which concludes almost 17% of single people plan to buy a property within the next two years, driving UK housing demand. Overall demand remains stable, with 12% planning to move in the next two years, unchanged since autumn 2003. Tables give figures for national and regional trends for plans to move and reasons for moving, broken down by gender and region.
