"Safer places: the planning system and crime prevention" has been launched as a good practice guide showing how planners, architects and developers can play a part in making streets, homes and parks safer places. Suggestions include new CCTV systems, better lit streets and stairways, the cutting back of trees and the enclosure of childrens' play areas.
