CPRE has issued the results of a major survey examining popular views on local countryside. Participants were asked to name the three critical features of their countryside. Tables summarise the main concerns as the decline of traditional meadows in the West Midlands, loss of working farms in the southwest and northwest, loss of traditional hedges in the southeast, Yorkshire and the Humber and the East Midlands and decline of quiet lanes in the east of England. http://www.cpre.org.uk/news-releases/news-rel-2004 /index.htm
