Gypsies have same rights as tenants

Gypsies have same rights as tenants - 2004 - European Court of Human Rights Press Release (267) 27 May 2004 (5) .

A landmark ruling from the European Court of Human Rights has given gypsies the same rights as council housing tenants to defend themselves against the threat of eviction. In "Chamber Judgment in the case of Connors v The UK", a panel of judges has ruled Leeds Council had abused the human rights of a gypsy family when it evicted them from a plot of land where they had lived for 13 years. The eviction rendered them homeless. http://www.echr.coe.int/eng/press/2004/may/chamber judgmentconnorsvuk270504.htm.
