The government has welcomed a Countryside Agency Report, 'The state of the countryside 2004 - the challenge of rural movers". Issues highlighted in the report include the effect of increased house prices on local residents which are making fewer homes affordable. Positive aspects include the fact that many rural areas are economically successful and people living there tend to live longer and have better health than urban dwellers.
