ODPM has released statistics showing vacancy rates for commercial and industrial property in English local authorities for 2001/02 and 2002/03. The average vacancy rate for properties in England as a whole was 8% in 2002/03 with northwest England and the West Midlands at 10% having the highest vacancy rates for the government office regions and southwest England with 6% the lowest. A table of experimental statistics of English vacancy rates from 1998-99 to 2002-03 has also been published at http://www.odpm.gov.uk/stellent/groups/odpm_planni ng/documents/page/odpm_plan_029343.xls.
