Material benefits
Foyle, J.
Material benefits - 2004 - Architects' Journal 220(2) 8 July 2004, 36-39(4) .
Part one on brick in a series of articles on the history and conservation of building materials. Points out that historically brickwork was seldom meant to be seen and would be covered with colourwash. Colourwash consisted of lime powder mixed with water and occasionally milk protein. It was then coloured with ochre. Highlights that the use of patterns and types of pointing in brickwork can help to date a structure.
