European rural development

European rural development - 2004 - Farmers' Weekly 141 (3) July 16-22 2004, 12 (1) .

The EU has published new proposals, for the period 2007 to 2013, for the way that it supports and encourages rural development. Under the plan, the commission wants to set up a single European rural development fund and raise expenditure to Ł13bn (£8.7bn) a year. This will be spent on three priority axes - improving competitiveness in agriculture, land management measures and diversification of the rural economy. The UK share of this fund will be 3.5% based on historic use only.
