Discusses the effects of the Water Act 2003. This has enabled the government to clarify the situation regarding the adoption of sewers, service pipes and water mains which connect properties to public networks. For new construction the Act gives the SoS powers which include allowing developers to enter into an agreement with water undertakers to lay water mains and communication pipes in accordance with standards set by the undertaker. The Act also encourages water companies and property developers to work together to get more sewers adopted once building work is complete.
