Regulation for estate agents?
Regulation for estate agents?
- 2004
- DTI Press Release 22 July 2004 (3) .
Currently estate agents are regulated by the Estate Agents Act 1979 and by a voluntary ombudsman scheme however, only about 40% of estate agents belong to this voluntary scheme. New plans just released by the government will mean that estate agents have to sign up to independent ombudsman schemes or face being banned. The ombudsmen will also be required to refer rogue agents who commit serious offences to the Office of Fair Trading for further investigation.
