A proposed shake-up of building regulations that could come into force by 2005 has been put forward by the ODPM. The new controls would be aimed at reducing the energy consumption of new buildings by 25% and implementing the Energy performance of buildings directive (2002/91/EC). Currently energy used in buildings is responsible for roughly half the UK's carbon dioxide emissions.
