The Chancellor of the Exchequer has announced details of the government's Comprehensive Spending Review - "Stability, security and opportunity for all: investing for Britain's long-term future". Included were announcements of £425m for the planning delivery grant in the three years up to 2007-08, which extends the original three-year lifespan of the grant. Overall spending on ODPM programmes is due to increase by 3.3% a year on average, in real terms to £8.4bn in 2007/08. The government also plans to increase by 50% the number of social rented homes, taking the figure to 10 000 annually. There was also a £200m community infrastructure fund, administered by the Dft.
