Notes how PFI/PPP has become a highly competitive market with both the private and public sectors having established affordability benchmarks. Gives a diagram of the traditional contract structure that has evolved over the last five to seven years. Argues that the opportunities and skills of FM professionals are not being fully realised in various ranges of roles within the PFI process. These include the existing FM contract services provider and FM technical advisor to the procuring authority. Better management of operational risk from the FM could improve the current PFI process; with examples including price sensitivity and analysis relating to inflation.
