Mortgage lending was pushed higher in July 2004 according to figures released today by the Council of Mortgage Lenders. "The survey of mortgage lenders" shows that gross lending was 3% than last month and 13% higher than in July 2003, at a new record of £29.2bn. There were 131 000 loans for house purchase in July and re-mortgaging totalled £11.3bn. The level of first-time buyers stayed fairly consistent and accounted for 28% of loans for house purchase, compared to 27% last month.
