Reports on innovative experiments by canny developers to overcome the current property glut in the buy-to-let residential rental sector. Looks at hotel room schemes such: as the former Westbourne Hotel, Notting Hill; serviced apartments such as those created in the old GLC County Hall; upmarket timeshare marketed by hotel chains such as De Vere, Marriott and Hilton; and developments such as Peter de Savory's Bovey Castle in Devon where the right to occupy the lodge properties is purchased by taking out membership to a private club. The above alternatives have at best uncertain capital returns and exist in untried rental markets. Student buy-to-let accommodation such as the Junxion scheme in Lincoln is a more sustainable sector, buoyed up by very high demand.
