The "Halifax house price index: August 2004" has just been released and in agreement with other indices, shows that house prices fell by 0.6%% last month. Although they have increased by 1.8% overall during the past three months, this is significantly lower than the 6.5% rise recorded in the preceding three months. Again, the Halifax feels that the five successive interest rate rises since November 2003 have acted as a brake on house price growth.
