The total volume of construction output in the year to the second quarter of 2004 rose by 6% compared to the previous year. Overall new work rose over the same period, as did output, which rose by 1% in volume terms but fell by 1% in current prices. Housing repair and maintenance work in the public sector was 17% higher in the year to the second quarter of 2004 compared with the previous year. In the private sector this was 2% and in the non-housing sector it was 4%.
