Stresses it is of vital importance that the preambles to bills of quantities must be reproduced and included in every contract, whether or not amendments to the MMHW are required. Uses case scenarios to illustrate some of the misconceptions which can arise. Compares the issue with other similar forms of contract, such as CESMM. Recommends following some simple rules when using MMHW, such as: ensuring item coverage is amended as required;ensuring it is supported by information and detail in the contract; avoidance of misinterpretations of item coverage;and not to include matters which the contractor cannot price.
