The British Council of Shopping Centres (BCSC) in their report, 'The shopping centre industry: its importance to the UK economy' argued that investment in inner-city retailing is under threat with investors focusing on larger schemes. Trends show that major investment is increasingly pouring into a relatively few leading centres. The BCSC called upon government bodies and planners to work together with private sector developers from the onset on strategic projects.
