Scotland to gain 21 500 new affordable homes

A new £1.17bn affordable homes plan for Scotland has been announced representing a one-third increase in housing approval rates over current levels, rising from around 6 000 per year to 8 000 in 2007/08. The rate at which homes for social rent are approved for construction will increase to 6 400 per year by 2007/08, twice as many per head compared to current English plans.
