Increasingly roadside verges are being recognised as valuable natural habitats. The Highways Agency Biodiversity Plan notes that many habitat types and species are likely to be found in verges. "Roadside habitats" looks at the Road Verge Habitat Plan, in particular the approach in Surrey. In "On the verge", representatives from three counties outline their progress in setting up local projects for protecting the wildlife habitats found in verges.
