The mix-adjusted average house price in the UK in August 2004 stood at £179 486, according to the ODPM's "House price index: August 2004". The rise in prices was across the board and not just in one sector - detached properties rose in price by 1.5%, semi-detached by 1%, terraced houses by 0.9% and flats by 1%.
