A major study of urban conditions and trends in England is to be led by urban affairs expert Michael Parkinson. The research will examine the importance of cities in creating sustainable communities and will be headed under four main themes: governance and the impact of policy in urban areas, the economic performance of cities, social cohesion and exclusion and urban liveability. The findings will be presented at the Sustainable communities summit in January 2005.
