The average property price in the UK fell for the third consecutive time in August 2004, according to figures released by the National Association of Estate Agents. Over three quarters of estate agents (79.6%) confirmed that they believe that house prices have reached their peak and will now decline. The average property price in August 2004, according to their figures, was £222 938. Asking prices were on average 1.3% lower than July, pushed down by first-time buyers seeking further discounts and securing, on average, 5.5% off the asking price. However, prices still remain out of budget for many and the number of first-time buyers fell below 10% for the first time since autumn 2003.
