Lifetime neighbourhoods

Lifetime neighbourhoods - 2004 - Building (41) 15 October 2004, 16 (1) .

A report by the Royal Town Planning Institute is calling for lifetime neighbourhoods to be created to cater for the needs of the country's ageing population. By 2042 there will be equal numbers of over-45s and under-45s; with the number of people of pensionable age set to increase from 10.8m in 2001 to 16.6m in 2041. "Planning for an ageing population" recommends that communities should be equipped with more facilities such as community centres and village halls, day centres, adult education, recreation and health centres. Communities also need to have a balance of house types so that there are suitable homes for all age groups. See the website for the full report. http://www.rtpi.org.uk/resources/publications/Age. html
