Experts have warned of an impending environmental crisis in eastern England's countryside after the region's assembly approved the building of nearly half a million homes by 2021. "RSS14 for the East of England: report of the strategic environmental assessment" warns of chronic shortages of piped water, the risk of floods, harm to the environment and wildlife, adverse effects on town-scapes, a slump in the regions' quality of life and a battle for land between the public sector and private enterprise.
