"The sustainable development strategy: illusion or reality?" has been published by the Environmental Audit Committee. It claims that the government's sustainable development strategy has failed to prioritise the environment over economic growth. The committee warned that the language of sustainable development will be debased if the government continues to use the word sustainable indiscriminately attached to words like transport, communities and growth. The report recommends that responsibilities for energy policy, transport and the environment, should be brought together in a single department. The full report can be accessed from: http://www.publications.parliament.uk/pa/cm/cmenva ud.htm.
