Estate agencies: impact of mortgage regulation

Walker, K.

Estate agencies: impact of mortgage regulation - 2004 - Estate Agent November 2004, 22-23(2) .

Examines the impact on estate agents of the new mortgage sales process regulatory regime undertaken by the Financial Services Authority (FSA) from 31 October 2004. Estate agents introducing a client to a local lender or mortgage broker must be authorised by the FSA to carry out this activity and they must comply with the "Mortgage conduct of business sourcebook". Looks at exemptions that estate agents might be able to make use of in respect of real time promotions and what they must do in the case of non-real time promotions such as advertising their ability to make introductions to mortgage brokers or lenders in local newspapers. Concludes with a note on the scope of the new regime.
