According to figures recently released, more councils are dealing with more planning applications in less time. The half-yearly "Planning performance checklist" of local authorities show improvemetns in every category of application since figures were last published. In the year to September 2004, the average number of major, minor, and other applications decided within the government's best value target periods rose by 3%, 4%, and 3% respectively. That translates into local planning authorities determining, on average, 55% of major planning applications within 13 weeks, 65% of minor planning applications and 81% of other applications within 8 weeks.
