New data reveals that departments have already saved £188 million on construction in the past 18 months, and sets out how the Government will reduce these costs even further over the next three years. The data shows that the costs of building projects such as schools and hospitals are set to fall by 15-20%. The published data will provide a standard average cost for projects that the public sector will be able to use to negotiate better prices and challenge industry for the first time, challenging firms to "beat the benchmark". Data sets include health, roads, schools, prisons and flood defences.
