Tarmac, Britain`s biggest housebuilder is to reduce the number of houses it builds by up to 2000 per year. The cutback, which will not be completed until the end of next year, should reduce the number of houses the group sells each year to about 7500 which will keep it ahead of Wimpey and Barrett its nearest rivals. The deputy chairman of Travis Perkins has called on the building industry to lower its capacity by 20% to reflect the lower demand.
