Looks at competition between European cities to attract inward investment, grants, prestige events and the contribution of urban planning to their relevant success. Focus on three cities: Malmo in Sweden and its treaty with Denmark to build a rail and road bridge between the two countries; Birmingham`s objective to be an international business centre; and Lille`s attempts to acheive a Eurocity renound for business and retail whilst also bidding for the 2004 Olympic games.
