A report, commissioned by CPRE and World Wide Fund for Nature , maintains that the EC system of agricultural subsidies could be abolished successfully by allowing the price of produce to be determined on the open market and using surplus funds to pay farmers a fee for managing the countryside in an environment ally sound manner.
