Unoccupied property exempt from rates - 1989 - Independent 3/5/89 p21 .

In Regent Lion Properties Ltd v Westminster CC , QBD 28 April 1989, it was held that the ratepayer was exempt from paying rates on premises it was "prohibited by law from occupying", after the local authority had served a notice under the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 , requiring treatment of asbestos .
