A member of Stockholm County Council discusses issues involved in a programme to convert old hospital buildings. This has arisen from a need, as in Britain, to cut costs. Examples are used to illustrate; including a conversion to provide more sophisticated health care facilities, a change of use of a former hospital into offices . The author concludes that old hospital buildings are a worthwhile resource for conversion provided they are carefully chosen and properly utilised.
