The Scottish business community is expressing concern over lack of information from the government on how soon a common uniform business rate for Scotland and England can be implemented. Until rating harmonisation can be achieved Scotland will have to make do with the index linking of further business rates increases levied by councils. It is feared that lack of a UBR will increase the competitive disadvantages already experienced by Scottish businesses as a result of higher rates payments.
