Examines the concern over health risks associated with vermiculite , used as an alternative to asbestos for thermal insulation and fire sprays . Vermiculite contains three forms of asbestos, none of which are banned for use. The HSE has commissioned a research programme into the safety of vermiculite and it is under investigation by the Institute of Occupational Medicine in Edinburgh.
