Structural steel frames could be up to 20% lighter as a result of research carried out by the Steel Construction Institute and the Building Research Establishment. Full scale load testing has shown that designers working to the forthcoming Eurocodes will be able to achieve potentially huge cost and weight savings adding to the competitiveness of steel frames.
