In Save Britain`s Heritage v SOS for the Environment and others HL 28 February 1991, the HL overturned the CA ruling (Abstract 43728) allowing the demolition of eight Grade II listed buildings in a City of London conservation area . Their replacement by a single modern building could be authorised by the SOS for Environment notwithstanding his policy that listed buildings still capable of economic use should not be demolished. Judgement stresses the ruling is not intended to set a precedent but was due to the special circumstances of appeal site. Followed by general comment.
