The contractor rule

The contractor rule - 1967 - Chartered Surveyor November 1967, 226, 229 (2) .

Until 1967 there was an absolute ban on QSs working for contractors. In November that year the rule was modified - see references. A further change was made in 1978 to enable TPC candidates to spend their period of approved professional experience wholly in a contractor`s organisation. Further reference: Tyrell-Evans The Quantity Surveyors` Committee 1904-1954 p47 RICS 1954/2. [The rule still exists in the sense that CQSs may not be in private practice and be associated in any way (through employment or directorship) with a contracting firm].
