Examines the threat to Britain`s heritage posed by property development, metal detectors and Whitehall planning regulations. A private member`s bill due to have its second reading in the House of Lords, would reform the law of treasure trove, if it gets on to the statute books. Archaeologists are also concerned at the number of sites being buried under building developments, without any rescue excavations.
