The preservation of timber is not required in standards or Building Regulations and protection against damp , insects and fungi is left almost exclusively to the discretion of designers or builders. This article examines the most commonly used preservatives and comments on the future of wood preservation in Europe , looking particularly at the implications of the harmonisation of national construction standards and growing environment al concern.
