Summarises recommendations of the Royal Commission on Environmental Pollution`s "Freshwater Quality" study (HMSO £57) set up to examine the quality of water in British rivers and lakes. These include suggestions for a Blue Flag scheme similiar to the one operated by the EC for sea bathing beaches and greater monitoring of chemical and bacterical discharge from industry.
