In "Stoke on Trent CC v B & Q plc" and "Norwich CC v b & Q plc", HL 31 March 1993, it was held that Article 30 of the EEC Treaty was to be interpreted as meaning that the prohibition that it laid down against `quanititive restrictions on imports and all measures having equivalent effect` did not apply to national legislation prohibiting retailers from opening on a Sunday.
