Energy from landfill gas : Short-term boost for a short-term option

Although substantial quantities of landfill gas remain to be tapped as an energy resource with more than 240 projects in existence on a world-wide basis, concern about global warming and the measures towards protecting the environment laid out in the Environmental Protection Bill indicate that energy policy is going to move away from landfill options towards energy production from biodegradable waste. Table shows number of projects within EC countries together with amount of landfill gas used.
