Whitehall moves shelved as office rents collapse

Due to the slump in the London office market, government is reconsidering plans to relocate key Government departments from London. There are also plans to use development land intended for offices for housing developments instead. Empty office blocks could also be converted into flats. According to a report produced by Herring Baker Harris on behalf of the civil service unions it would not make economic sense for the DoE to relocate to Docklands and recommends making use of available space in Central London.
