Discusses proposals to introduce commonhold giving residential leaseholders a right to buy the freehold and a right to extend their leases. Labour and Conservative parties support the proposals, which are opposed by landlords and professional organisations such as the RICS and ISVA. The Labour party also proposes to repeal legislation allowing landlords to recover unpaid rent from former tenants.
