The livestock auction sector is undergoing a period of dramatic change with many small markets closing down and trade increasingly being carried out in large, purpose-built `agri-business` centres. This article identifies five principle factors which have influenced this trend and also looks at the impact of electronic auction systems and EC reform of farm subsidies on the industry.
