Discusses the scope of tortious liability for negligently furnished information and advice following the decision in Caparo Industries plc v Dickman (Abs 42588). This case affirms that the search for a general test of liability in tort should be abandoned. The correct approach is to examine whether a case falls within an existing category where liability has been upheld, with new categories being developed by comparison with established existing catagories rather than by reference to a general test.
