In "Cala Homes and another v Alfred McAlpine East", the defendant (McAlpine) was accused of copying a range of detached houses previously commissioned and built by Cala. The court had to decide whether the Cala designs were original and therefore if they were entitled to copyright protection. It was held that Cala was the main author of the drawings and that McAlpine had infringed copyright. Additional damages were ordered.
